Matthew is a shepherd and Jane a house servant. The religion is Church of Scotland and they can Read and Write.

The death of Mathew Phillips aged 73 (30 April, 1899), father of Jane Sulzberger, was witnessed by Jacob Sulzberger, his son-in-law. Jacob was to leave for New Zealand soon after this death.

The will of Archibald Cross, wife of Jane (Jean) Christina Sulzberger daughter of Jacob and Jane. Archibald died in Perth W.A of influenza in 1923. He and Jane visited Taranaki to see relatives about 1920. He left three daughters and two sons: Dorothy, Amy Bell, Evaline Sydney and Keith. |

When Archibald Cross died in 1923 his orchard at Kelmscott 3 to 3.5 miles east of Armidale, Western Australia) was valued for estate purposes by James Butcher. All was left to his wife, Jane Christina (nee Sulzberger) who was to move with the five children to Taranaki in New Zealand in 1925. The valuer records that there were 100 acres of freehold land; some in a rather dilapidated state. Eight acres was in orchard (rather neglected) and 14.5 acres of fairly good land partly cleared and grassed. Some was swamp and the balance was poor and rough. The best land was valued at £448 and the poor land at £7-10-0. |

There was a weatherboard house and sheds and some livestock - six cows, four heifers, three calves, a bull and two horses used for farm work (discing and harrowing) and transport. There was a motor lorry in good order. The total inheritance for Jane Christina was £1259-10-0. |
